Kelty Redwing
In 1952 Dick Kelty and his wife, Nena, set out on a business venture in his garage and ended up creating what today is considered a valuable part of any trip; a high quality, durable backpack. With Nena sowing the material and Dick welding the frames by hand using aircraft aluminium, together they successfully sold 29 backpacks.
In the following years Dick not only doubled but tripled his backpacks sales until in 1956, he was able to quit his carpentry business and started making Kelty Backpacks full-time.
By 1966 Kelty Backpacks were used on the Antarctica expedition and in 1977 Kelty celebrated their 25th anniversary.
In 1979 American Recreation Products purchased Kelty.
From then on things just got better and better. More and more products were added to the Kelty line. 59 years of experience in the outdoor business is apparent when you look at the wide range and quality of products they are selling today.
The Kelty Redwing Backpack for instance, is the most popular pack on the trail and with outdoors men. Everywhere you look people rate the Kelty Redwing very high.
Features
- People are impressed with the amount of pack space you get even with the smaller versions of these packs.
- The deluxe feature on The Redwing is that all the shoulder straps and waist fasteners that are padded for extra comfort in order to provide an excellent hiking experience.
- The outside pockets on these packs are larger than normal, which gives more packing space for essential stuff like water bottles etc. One hiker was able to add a full gallon of water in the outside pockets alone. That is impressive, don’t you agree?
- Some of the outside pockets have zippers for holding valuables and so on.
- The Redwing range is part of a new concept and contains a frame inside the pack. The advantage of this is that you get more pack space in the same volume pack. That is why so many backpackers are actually astounded by the amount of pack space you get. The disadvantage of this system is that the pack sits against the back and does not allow for airflow between the back and the body. This can cause excessive sweating in warmer climates.
The Redwing 50 has a volume of 51 litres and according to some; it can easily carry a family of three’s items for at least a one day excursion.
The Redwing 44 is a backpack with 44 litre volume space. This pack can be used for light travelling such as one day trips for one person and so on.
The Redwing 40 is designed especially for woman. It is smaller and more lightweight than the other packs.
Other Kelty Redwing Backpacks’ are the Redwing 3100 and the Redwing 2650. These are the older versions of the Redwing range.
The Kelty Redwing range is very affordable and can provide you with a backpack for almost every excursion imaginable.
